Getting started: record your first paddle

Use this checklist to set up PaddlePal and save your first workout.

Before you record

  1. Install or update PaddlePal. If using Apple Watch, install the Watch app too.
  2. Open the app and follow onboarding. Allow location access and Precise Location. Grant the Apple Health permissions needed for workouts and workout routes.
  3. Choose your activity and preferred units. On iPhone, the home-screen gear opens Settings; look under Workout & Units.
  4. Go outdoors, check your location and battery, and protect your device from water.

Record on one device

Start on your iPhone or on Apple Watch. Avoid starting separate recordings on both devices for the same paddle unless you deliberately want two workouts.

  1. On the home screen, set a countdown if wanted, then tap GO.
  2. Check that the workout has started and that the timer is running.
  3. Use the workout controls to pause and resume when needed.
  4. When finished, use the end control and follow the save prompts. Choose discard only if you do not want to keep the session.
  5. Open Logbook on iPhone to review your paddle. Allow Watch recordings time to sync.
